COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course will begin with an exploration through images and some geometric theory of pattern and structure both in natural phenomina and man made artifacts. The week will comprise an extended practical project of the students own choosing within the loose conceptal framework of ‘ Enclosing Space’.
The materials will be linear in nature, stiff and bendy poles with string and rope to bind or tie them together. It is invisaged that the work could be large scale outdoor structures but there will also be similar materials on a smaller scale for trying out ideas or making smaller pieces. The venue for the course will be barns and surrounding fields on the south facing edge of the beautiful Teign Valley on Dartmoor.
The tutors are both highly experienced sculptors with a passion for their subject and it is strongly recommended that prospective students have a look at both their websites to get an idea of their areas of interest.
There will be group discussions and individual tutorial help throughout the course covering practical, conceptal and aesthetic issues. It is also hoped that there will be one or two visiting lectures with their own related areas of expertise, such as architecture and physics.
