Full week; £395
Danny Holmes Adams' personal experience and deep understanding of colour is central to Painting in the Landscape. He quietly and confidently guides students of this course through the complexities and techniques of oil painting in the landscape with a particular emphasis on the use of colour.
Students will be working directly from the landscape and the preliminary work will consist of walks and sketchbook studies in order to become familiar with the Dartmoor environment. Through discussion, decisions will be made about the subject matter that inspires each individual and then painting will begin. Students will gain a deeper understanding of painting with oils, learn how to evolve their own ideas and discover increased confidence and enthusiasm. Group and one-to-one tuition will be offered throughout the week and there will be plenty of opportunity for group discussions and a constructive group critique at the end of the week with Danny and Trevor? This course combines the experience of working in a wild and breathtaking landscape with expert tuition by one of the South West's leading landscape painters.
Full week; £395
Using the head as a focus, the course will immerse students in the experience of looking. Through drawing and painting, students will have the opportunity to engage with ideas about structure, space, light and colour. The course will lead up to a sustained pose and students will be encouraged to consider ideas about composition. The students can develop either one, or a series of paintings from the model. Short slide talks will support studio work. Students will be encouraged to participate in informal discussions during the course, and the week will close with a group discussion.
Materials will be provided on both courses but students are encouraged to bring their favourite paints, brushes and specifically shaped and/or sized canvasses.
