COURSE: Combined Cob and Ceramics

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is a unique opportunity to explore the sculptural possibilities of earth materials working along side the other course tutors.

Although the course is combined, it is possible to specialise in a single discipline.

The course will cover Ceramics and Cob from first principles.

  • Learning basic techniques of both disciplines
  • Look at scale, texture and form
  • Make a series of ceramic objects, which will be fired at the end of the week in the cob kiln
  • Explore the use of found materials examining their effects on the clay and how they react with the surfaces of the fired objects

As the week progresses, participants will be encouraged to draw and develop their ideas and will have the opportunity to work on their own pieces.

Everyone will be given a comprehensive understanding of earth materials, a free hand to be really ambitious and play with big ideas.
